Need a Cartoon You? Embrace Your Inner Manga

A site called Face Your Manga enables you to create (for free) a cartoon replica of yourself. There are plenty of similar sites (google “design custom avatar“). Do I use them? No. But this one doesn’t look entirely unlike me. I have yet to figure out why this is more interesting than a photograph, but for some people perhaps it is.
Sadly, in real life, I actually look more like this one made from DoppelMe [removed on my wife’s insistence].
Much more useful and interesting for geeks like me is the very creative and well-written article How to make custom avatars with PHP. Very impressive!
An excellent use for technology

There is, of course, no end of potential jokes to be made about the news that a dairy farm in central California is running its vehicles on methane produced by cows. I, however, shall take the high road and commend this little operation for doing their part in reducing our dependence on foreign oil and for simultaneously helping the environment by repurposing a waste product. Well done, Hilarides Dairy of Lindsay, CA!
Ode to a Blank Page
Posted in Poetry, Silliness on March 22, 2008| 2 Comments »
I wrote this poem in a creative writing class when I was about 16:
O to you, blank page, I give
Thoughts upon my narrative
Staining sheets once white as snow
With ink transversing to and fro
And then once more, I turn you in
My words to be judged once again
When you return, you bear a C
O why, blank page, do you torment me?
It seems to sum up blogging in a nutshell, particularly if the C stands for comments.
